NO! to overdevelopment say Catford Residents - 19/02/08

Catford Residents are giving a big thumbs down to plans to build residential tower blocks on the site of the former Catford Greyhound Stadium

Following a planning application in November 2007 local Conservatives alerted residents to the proposal to put 593 residential units in the town centre site, some in blocks 8 stories high. With regeneration needed for this site the proposed density and scale of this application, in a location adjacent to an already gridlocked part of the South Circular, has clearly not been thought through.

It appears local people agree with the Conservative view. Just 2 months later over 100 letters of objection to the scheme had been received by the Council with just 2 in favour.

Rushey Green Conservative spokesman Brian Chipps said:

"This planning application is totally inappropriate for the area, it will put undue strain on the local infrastructure and services. It is entirely in keeping with the Labour Mayor of London's policy of building high-density housing across London.

Catford needs more good quality family housing, not more high-density tower blocks."
