Catford Stadium redevelopment - residents let down by Councillors - 17/10/08

On Thursday evening Lewisham Council's Strategic Planning Committee heard the planning application for the redevelopment of the former Catford Greyhound Stadium. Despite the anger of local residents the proposal was rubber stamped through at the first attempt.

The proposal was voted through in its entirety by just 1 vote, with a Rushey Green Ward Councillor abstaining. The Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group (who lives in the ward) and one of his colleagues failed to attend. The table below shows how each of the Councillors voted.

Local Conservatives campaigned tirelessly alongside residents over the last year, in favour of the redevelopment of the site for housing but arguing that it should be on a sensible scale.

We understand that the application must now be referred to the Mayor of London under Article 4 of the Town and Country Planning (Mayor of London) Order 2000.
