Conservatives choose Jonathan Clamp to beat Labour in Lewisham East - 03/11/08

Jonathan Clamp has been chosen by East Lewisham Conservatives as their Candidate to take on Labour's Bridget Prentice at the next General Election. The 37-year-old Londoner, a father of two, leads the fight to win Lewisham East back for the Conservatives after a sixteen year gap.

Jonathan is a senior manager in the Public Sector division of a major communications company and a Londoner born-and-bred. He served as a Local Councillor in Kensington & Chelsea from 2002-6 and has worked extensively with disadvantaged children. Most recently, Jonathan trekked in the Himalayas to raise money for a charity that takes children off the streets of Delhi in India and puts them back into education.

A keen athlete, Jonathan lives in South London with his wife and their two sons, aged 4 and 2.

Speaking after his selection, Jonathan said:

It's a real privilege to have been chosen to fight for the people of Lewisham East at the next General Election. People here have endured 11 years of a Labour Government, 16 years of a Labour MP and 37 years of Labour running Lewisham Council. Meanwhile, the gap between rich and poor grows wider; violent crime gets worse and vital services get cut. It is time for new ideas. I look forward to putting the Conservative Party's positive alternative to the voters of Lewisham East.

Nick Kent, the Chairman of the Conservatives in East Lewisham, said:

I am delighted that we have chosen Jonathan Clamp to stand for Lewisham East. He's a Londoner to the core and knows this city intimately. He has a track record of dealing with social issues, he is very approachable, and he really listens to what people say. With Jonathan at the helm, we will win back Lewisham East.
