Conservative Candidates welcome Police increase for local commuters - 15/01/09

Downham Conservative Candidates Christine Allison and Andrew Lee welcomed the news that 50 additional British Transport Police will be patrolling local stations in Outer London. The stations covered include Grove Park, Beckenham Hill and Ravensbourne.

The deployment of the new officers means the another key manifesto pledge has been fulfilled by Conservative Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

The Mayor said: "During the election campaign I made a pledge that I would make London's suburban stations safer because everyone has the right to travel safely and free from the fear of crime, no matter what part of London they live in.''

"These new officers help to underline our commitment to tackling antisocial behaviour and crime, ensuring Londoners can go about their business with a feeling of safety and security.''

Christine Allison commented: "As a frequent train user I am absolutely delighted that Boris has kept his pledge to the people of Downham who helped elect him to replace Ken Livingstone only last year.''
