Labour and Lib Dem Candidates quit the fight in Lewisham East. - 6/04/09

The announcement that Labour MP, Bridget Prentice, will not fight Lewisham East at the next General Election has left local Conservatives ready to re-take the seat they held until 1992.

Bridget Prentice's announcement follows the news that the Lib Dem candidate, Chris Maines has also quit as his party's parliamentary candidate.

This leaves Conservative challenger, Jonathan Clamp, as the only major party candidate ready to fight an imminent General Election.

Many people are now wondering if Bridget Prentice has seen the writing on the wall. Last year's elections in Lewisham East ended in a photo finish, with the Conservatives only 1000 votes behind Labour. The Lib Dems finished third...in every ward.
