The Ladywell Leisure centre which has recently had £1.8 Million spent on its refurbishment is to be demolished less than 5 years after its re-opening if the plans of Lewisham's Mayor, Steve Bullock, go ahead.  The Labour and Lib-Dem dominated council have decided that they need another secondary school in Lewisham.  They have decided that the Ladywell Leisure Centre site is where it needs to be, this is despite its recent refurbishment and the availability of a number of alternative sites across the Borough.

James Cleverly, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for East Lewisham had this to say on the matter:

'I have spoken to parents and they and I agree that there is a desperate need for another secondary school in the area.  Where the council and I part company is the choice of location.  This is another example of Steve Bullock's "spend now think later" attitude, he should think about whose money he is actually spending. When Lewisham council pretend that your council tax increases are being spent on essential services remember the £1.8 million wasted at Ladywell.'
