Conservatives set to win

The Conservatives are set to win in Lewisham East.

That is the message that comes out of the results of the election for the Mayor of London in May 2008.

The Conservative Party is now the closest it has been to Labour in Lewisham East for almost 20 years - when Lewisham East was last a Conservative-held seat.

The results across Lewisham East's 7 wards were:

Labour 9879

Conservative 8820

Lib Dems 2705

(Source: London Elects*)

On the basis of these results, there has been a big swing in Lewisham East towards the Conservatives in the three years since 2005, with Labour and the Lib Dems going backwards fast.

A highly motivated team of Conservative activists, led by the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Jonathan Clamp, is working hard to show that the Conservative Party is the only serious and positive alternative to Gordon Brown's tired and discredited Labour Government.

With your help the Conservatives can win in Lewisham East.

* A further 4302 people voted Conservative across Lewisham's 18 Wards by postal vote. But ward-specific data does not exist for postal votes so it is not possible to be precise about the total votes. If the postal votes were allocated in proportion to the number of Wards, then the total Conservative vote in Lewisham East would have been 10,493.
